Movie of the Week << Fathers and Daughters (2015)

Heyyy People!

Today I am doing a review on a movie that was recommended from a friend of mine, “Fathers and Daughters”, and all I have to say before I begin, is that I truly truly liked this movie as it was an emotional roller-coaster from start to finish!

Title: Fathers and Daughters

Release date: 2015

Genre: Drama

Starring: Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Bruce Greenwood, Kylie Rogers

Director: Gabriel Muccino

Duration: 1h 56m

Summary: This movie follows the story of Katie, a little that lost her mother on a young age and clings to her father like he is her lifeline. Told through past and present moments of Katie’s life, the movie follows her story from pain to salvation.

Likes/Dislikes (may contain spoilers): First, I want to praise the acting, because every single one of them did an amazing job. Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried had me crying and even little Katie Rogers delivered her part with such maturity and heart that was impressive for her age.

Plot-wise, this movie didn’t give me a minute to rest. I was happy, sad, furious, emotional and then starting all over again! Joke’s devotion to Katie was remarkable, and it was reinforce after his wife’s death in an accident. He did everything in his power to provide for Katie and also spend quality time with her, while facing his own psychological aftermath that was caused by the accident.

I simply simply despised Katie’s aunt and uncle, especially when they tried to adopt her, even though her father was still pretty much alive! That seemed such an absurd notion and at first thought it’d be illegal but turns out its not, if the father is supposedly unable to take care of his child. That was the breaking point for Jake and he fought with everything he had to keep Katie.

Another aspect I like was the fact that they didn’t shy aways from the way older Katie chose to deal with her inner problems. To be more exact, Katie used sex with various guys, because she was afraid to form a real relationship. Usually women aren’t shown to behave like that, because they will be likely characterized in a certain way, whereas that’s not the case with men.

Overall, I loved this movie. The emotions were real and raw and you could see complex characters unraveling their life before your eyes!

Thank you for reading my movie review, I hope that you will see the movie and if you do, I will be glad to read your feedback in the comments.
